Comic Con: Halo Reach Firefight Versus Gameplay

Comic Con: Why is Master Chief in Halo Reach?

Earlier today, IGN spoke with Bungie about credits and daily challenges.

Halo: Reach may not star the iconic Master Chief, but the Spartan hero known as John-117 is indeed making a cameo appearance in Halo: Reach. Crazy? Maybe not once you learn the context. Here we’ve compiled five fun facts about the customization options you get in Halo: Reach that you simply must know.

Master Chief is Ready for Action
One customization option you get in the Armory is for Firefight voice. Here you can pick what voice does the squawking for you while you play with friends. The obvious ones are here, including members of Noble Team and Sergeant Johnson, but there are also a few fun inclusions. Master Chief’s voice is in, but you’ll have to purchase it with credits earned by playing. And it is expensive.

Also up for purchase is Cortana’s sultry voice.

What You See Is Not All You Get
When you get Halo: Reach, you’ll find plenty of options for customizing your Spartan. You can be male or female, choose from a variety of helmets, pads, colors and much more. There isn’t any reason to worry about having trouble making your Spartan look unique.

What is available at launch, however, is only the beginning. Bungie has told IGN that new customization options will become available over time. Some will unlock as the community meets certain requirements. Others will simply appear in the weeks or months after launch as a way of reinvigorating the community.

Flame On and Other Effects
Buy the Legendary Edition of Halo: Reach and you can get the exclusive flaming helmet armor effect. It won’t work during cut-scenes — Bungie wanted to keep the integrity of the story intact — but you can use it in any multiplayer game or even during the campaign gameplay portions.

A flaming helmet isn’t the only Armor Effect, as we recently learned. Others include the Birthday Party confetti death fountain, an electricity effect called Inclement Weather, and one called Pestilence that looks to spew out the same methane gas cloud you see when killing grunts. All of these cost quite a few credits, so be prepared to start saving.

Elites Play Dress-up Too
The Covenant equivalent to the Spartan doesn’t get quite as many customization options as the humans do, but there are ways of showing of your look when playing as the Elite online. At least a half-dozen different Elite models can be opted for, with some of them looking quite awesome. The catch? You guessed it — these models cost some serious credits.

Challenge Ready
One of the best ways to farm credits is by participating in the daily and weekly challenges Bungie is injecting into Halo: Reach. Each day a new challenge will appear, which you can learn simply by being signed into Xbox Live and scrolling down to the Challenge portion of the menu. Complete the challenge and you’ll get “a significant number of credits.”

There may be some crazy conditions that need to be met, including playing on specific levels with specific skulls turned on. Just setting up a game could be a chore — or at least it could be if Bungie wasn’t doing all of the work for you. When you scroll to a specific challenge, all you have to do is hit the A Button to accept it. From there, the game will automatically set up a lobby with all of the specific conditions needed to meet the challenge already set up for you.

Comic Con: Forge World ViDoc

Comic Con: Forge Revealed

Forge is being revealed on the new Blood Gulch map. Everything can be changed. Large amounts of scenery, spawn points, etc. More details is shown with this as a rock is deleted to show the versatility.

On the new Blood Gulch map, you can go outside of the canyon. Around waterfalls, trees, the entire landscape.

Tons and tons of objects confirmed. New area called “The Island” shown. Could be like the new foundry.
“The Coliseum” now shown. Could also be like the new Sandbox/Foundry.

The object placement UI is roughly the same, except for a new option called structure. It’s an entirely new section of objects. A huge library of objects to go through. Now, you orbit around the object. Bungie’s goal with this new game is to make it easier for you to use forge.

Different physics and setting were added to make forge easier than ever. There are a ton of new ways to move objects, it’s extremely customizable.

Teleporters are now customizable. You can change size, what they do, and what can move through them, including vehicles. There are also colored lights for landmarking.

The toys category was briefly shown. Golf balls and the golf clubs are back.

There is an entire Forge world list. That is what The Island and The Coliseum were from. There is also The Cage, which looks similar to Lockout and Guardian.

There will be a new Vidoc posted in 20 minutes on Bungie.net. It will be the Forge World Vidoc.

In the video, they’re talking about how Forge was clunky in Halo 3 and how they flushed out the options to actually be options and to allow you to do what you want to do with the objects. You can be more precise than ever before with the new options. You can select individual objects and decide to delete all of that specific kind of objects on your map. Want to reposition all the spawn points? Just pick one and you can choose to delete them all.

Comic Con: Firefight Details Emerge

In firefight, you will have full matchmaking capabilities from Day 1. There will be a specific Firefight playlist where you can jump in, party up, and go.

Some of the built in playlists include generator defense for firefight. This is new since up to now we only thought this would be a human vs. human playlist option. Also announced is a brand new firefight gametype, , Gruntpocalypse which is all grunts, all the time.

You can also set a time limit, so you don’t have to play in those never ending firefight games again. Spartans and loadouts will be fully customizable, to the point, they have described it as “insane”.

Also brand new and just announced, you can play Firefight from the perspective of the Covenant.

All maps in Firefight will be taken straight from the campaign.
