Weekly Challenge: Kill 1500 Enemies in Matchmaking

Ok guys, so daily challenges come and go, typically pretty easily. However, Bungie’s recently thrown us a curveball and introduced the Weekly Challenges. This week’s challenge: Kill 1500 Enemies in Multiplayer Matchmaking this week.

Now, I know what you guys are probably thinking right now; “What the F***?!” I have to say I agree, 1500 Enemies in a week does seem like a daunting task. However, don’t put down your controller and hide under your couch just yet.

HaloReachTips.net has your back on this one. We’re gonna tell you everything we can to help you walk away with this week’s cR reward in the bank.

The first thing you need to consider when tackling a massive kill count like this is to consider which of your Halo strengths can help you the most in this situation. Case in point: If GAMETIME2121 is a bit of a lone wolf and sees his top performances in Rumble Pit, then he probably shouldn’t try to reinvent the wheel and jump into Team Snipers. Find whatever playlist that you find yourself averaging 11+ kills per game. Unless you’re a god at doubles, you probably should avoid gametypes with a small number of players that you can kill. I know few players really get their Halo fix out of Rumble pit, but it’s the ideal gametype for this challenge. With the top three players usually having well over 15 kills, you don’t necessarily have to win to gain a significant kill count. Plus, if you are a BAMF in Rumble Pit, You’ll see games of 25 kills pretty often.

Second word of advice: focus on your objective. This week’s objective: kill more enemies than Leonitas in 300. This means, of course, that you shouldn’t focus on other objectives. An example: NoobSkyWalker123 says he really want’s to earn the cR for the All in a Week’s Work challenge, but has been playing Team Snipers and relentlessly dropping opponent’s sheilds so his boys can clean them up. This might gain him the 1000cR for the A Friend in Need Challenge, but 10 kills and 11 assists isn’t going to cut it for this week’s Challenge. Keep your eye on the prize ponyboy if you really want to cross this one off your checklist.

Last tip: Dedication to the sport. This challenge is a little aimed towards the true Halo geeks out there, but that shouldn’t scare you away. Most gamers out there average around 900-1100 kills a week anyway, increasing your destruction by 50% isn’t going to require quitting your job (for those of you who have them). However, you are going to have to buckle down a little bit. Maybe your girlfriend or boyfriend (again for those of you who have them) can hang out with their friends a couple times this week. Your sacrifice will pay off.

Ok, Recap time.

1) Play to your strengths. Use your favorite weapon, and take no prisoners. For those of you objective fans, play the least important role so your team doesn’t mind you getting your kill face on.

2) Focus! Don’t catch yourself racking up assists or sacrificing a good kill count every game for a melee challenge.

3) Stick with it! Crack down and get a good session every day this week. Consider yourself part of project Mass Pwn!

That’s all the advice we got for ya, now get out there and noscope somebody!

An Inside Look Into The Halo Book Series

We all love the Halo games, but they can only give us so much of Halo’s elaborate story. That’s where the Halo novels come into play. The novels reach back, forward and in between the Halo games, providing an in depth look into the Halo universe. Bungie has gone through extreme measures to keep us Halo fanatics on our toes; keeping fresh and intriguing pieces to the puzzle at our fingertips. The Halo novels themselves are around 340 pages long and are relatively accurate as far as the story is concerned.

The first book, Halo: The Fall of Reach, is a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. It goes all the way back to the recruiting of John-117 (Master Chief) and effectively starts the story of Halo.

The second book is titled Halo: The Flood and is a novelization of Halo: Combat Evolved and takes place in the year 2552. It’s the recollection of the events that took place in Combat Evolved.

Halo: First Strike is the third installation of the Halo novels and covers the events occurring prior to Halo 2. The book answers many questions Halo fans had including what happened to the spartans on Reach and how sargeant Johnson survived the Flood. It’s arguably the most inconsistent of the 7 novels.

The 4th Halo book, Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, is a bit of a side story. It’s plot kind of jumps around from as early as 2531 to as late as 2552. It covers the widespread effort of the UNSC to develop a very large fleet of Spartan Warriors. It’s the first of the Halo Books to not include Spartan John-117, however is very well connected to the Halo story in all.

Halo: Contact Harvest is the 5th novel and takes place in 2525. It is the true beginning of the Halo story as it introduces the first contact between Covenant and Human forces. Sargeant Johnson plays the main role in the book, once again leaving Spartan hero John-117 out of the picture.

The 6th novel in the series is titled Halo: The Cole Protocol. It is the first appearance of the Gray Team and tells the in depth story of the UNSC’s initial efforts to prevent the Covenant from discovering Earth. Captain Keyes is inserted back into battle with the sole intent on protecting the location of Earth. There are several award winning authors behind the making of The Cole Protocol promising an excellent continuation of the series’ captivating nature.

The most recent of the Halo books is Halo: Evolutions. It too is a combined effort of many critically acclaimed authors. Evolutions is a compilation of many Halo stories that effectively fill in the blanks that cloud up the Halo story. It’s a rather appropriate end to the series of novels, but no word of it being the last has been heard.

The Halo book series is a great addition to the Halo experience and is recommended to everyone from the most avid fanatics to newcomers alike. It, for the most part, has been positively accepted by Halo fans and critics as a great addition to the Halo Universe.

Noble Map Pack Coming 11/30/10

You heard that right, Bungie has announced the very first map pack for Halo: Reach. The Noble Map Pack will include 3 maps for 800ms points and will be available for download on 11/30/10. It will also include all new Achievements worth a total of 250 Gamerscore.

Let’s take a closer look at the maps included in the pack.

Anchor 9

Within the confines of this low orbit dry-dock, UNSC craft undergo rapid repair and rearmament in support of the enduring war effort. But for the small squads of infantry who now fight over the mirrored interior hallways and open central hangar bay, this platform no longer provides any safe harbor whatsoever – whether the close quarters combat is occurring inside or out of its artificial gravitational field. Anchor 9 allows 2-8 Players to face off in game variants including Free for All, Team Slayer and Team Objective.

Tempest

This abandoned shoreline facility bends both sea and sky to an unnatural purpose, but the ground itself has quickly become another all too familiar battlefield. Though the two opposing symmetrical bases may never reveal their ancient purpose, both now offer makeshift shelter and access to strategic routes perfectly suited for small and large scale skirmishes alike. Tempest supports 8 – 16 Players and offers a variety of modes including Free for All, Team Slayer, Team Objective and Big Team Battle. Tempest also provides players with a huge Forge palette, allowing them to create new custom map variants that can be shared with the community-at-large.

Breakpoint

Atop this icy precipice, the Invasion continues. These modular archaeological labs were never intended to withstand such a large scale onslaught of Covenant military power, but the information being extracted here may prove vital to humanity’s survival. In response to the imminent Covenant threat, UNSC ground and air assets have been deployed to bolster entrenched Spartan countermeasures. This site must yield salvation, or it will become a grave. Breakpoint offers multiplayer mayhem for 8-16 Players, and supports the Invasion and Big Team Battle game variants.

Exclusive: Source says Rank Cap could be removed as early as Tomorrow (Oct. 5th). Also hints at Double cR weekends.

Oct. 4th 2010, 12:52pm

An exclusive you won’t find anywhere else (until all of you other sites steal this article), a source from within Bungie who wants to remain anonymous hinted with me that the current rank cap of Lt. Colonel Grade 3 could be removed as early as tomorrow with the playlist update, and will definitely be lifted by the end of the month.

He cited with upcoming releases such as Medal Of Honor and COD Black Ops, they don’t want to lose players based on the fact they are “stuck” and can’t rank up. He mentioned the Rank Cap was in play to let players catch up, but also for the fact Black Ops is going to challenge Reach and unlocking the rank cap will be a good way to get back more of the devoted players.

He also mentioned not to rule out the possibility of Double cR weekends starting in November. Though they haven’t confirmed this internally, it is something they are talking about doing to try and keep some of their players when Black Ops releases.

To me, it seems like Bungie is worried about Black Ops stealing some of their market, and has these counter-measures in place to try and keep people playing Halo.

Expect no comment or even denial from Bungie regarding this matter of course, since this is obviously information they wanted to keep close to their hearts.

The Halo: Reach rank cap is currently set a Lt. Colonel Grade 3, with players not being able to advance any further. The next rank is Commander. Click here for a list of all 50 Halo: Reach Ranks and their icons and required cR.

Team SWAT Playlist Coming Oct. 7th

For those of you who want to not be stuck playing SWAT all night, your lucky day is coming. On October 7th, the first playlist update will come, and for now all we know is it will create a Team SWAT playlist and remove it from Team Slayer.

Right now, the only way to play Team SWAT is hope it comes up on the Team Slayer playlist. Bungie has received numerous (and I mean numerous) complaints about the fact they don’t want SWAT in their Slayer, and Bungie is quick to respond as always.

This is to much of the community’s delight, but it is yet to be seen if The Cage will be removed from multiplayer matchmaking as well, as it is getting constant negative reviews from, all around.

The Team SWAT playlist will include the following maps:
Asylum
Boardwalk
Countdown
Pinnacle
Powerhouse
Reflection
Sword Base
The Cage
Zealot
