Comic Con: Halo Reach featuring 32 players online (rumor)

That screenshot is from G4TV‘s listing of Halo: Reach. Notice anything weird about it? The number of online players has doubled, to 32 players.

This could mean one big announcement will be for 16v16 action, and my best guess is that they will be showing this off when they show off the new Blood Gulch map.

Stay tuned to HaloReachTips.net for up to the minute coverage from Comic Con and be sure to visit our brand new forum to discuss this topic and everything else to do with Halo: Reach!

Comic Con: Brutes are not in Multiplayer

This is a picture that has been floating around the Halo community today, with many people thinking that it is a brute in the picture, along with forge monitors. While the forge monitors are there, that is actually not a brute.

Zoom in on the picture, and you will see it is an Elite with armor wielding the hammer. No brutes in multiplayer or in forge, as sad as that is.

If you are visiting Comic-con however, be sure to go play Halo: Reach in one of their booths, and you will receive this limited edition concept art for free!

Would you want to play as a brute in multiplayer? Leave a comment below and tell us why or why not!

Major League Gaming to use Halo Reach This Season

The people over at Major League Gaming have apparently found a way to add in Halo: Reach to its circuit right after launch. Here is a list of the changes made to the circuit this year to incorporate Halo: Reach.

Anyone who Competes in Raleigh’s Halo 3 Competition (Aug. 27-29) Will Get a Reserved Team Pass for Their Choice of Either the MLG Washington D.C. or MLG Dallas Halo Reach Competitions

Washington D.C. (Oct. 15–17) will now host both the Doritos Combine and Pro Circuit Competitions

The Doritos Pro-Gaming Combine will use Halo Reach

* Up to 256 teams may register for this Event
* The Format of the Competition will be the same as that of the Combine Events that have already occurred
* The same prizes will be up for grabs, there will be an FFA Event, and the same player restrictions will apply
* Winners from the first three Combines (Nashville, Chicago and Denver) will still be invited to the Combine Finals, which will now feature Halo Reach (see below)
* Results from this competition will also be used to seed the MLG Dallas Halo Reach Exhibition Event (see below)

The MLG Pro Circuit will continue to use Halo 3

* Up to 44 teams may register for this Event
* The team that wins the MLG D.C. Halo 3 4v4 Event will be invited to compete in the National Championship, along with seven other teams based on Season Rank Points

Dallas, TX (Nov. 5–7) is now the site of the MLG Pro Circuit National Championship and Combine Finals, and will host a Halo Reach Exhibition Event

The Doritos Pro-Gaming Combine Finals will use Halo Reach

* The 32 Combine Winners will compete
* Four winners will receive Pro Status for the entire 2011 Season, which will feature Halo Reach

The MLG Pro Circuit National Championship will use Halo 3

* The Halo 3 competition is invitation-only, and will feature the eight teams that qualified throughout the Regular Season
* At the conclusion of the 2010 Season, the Top 8 teams, based on points, will be seeded 1-8 for the Championship Bracket at the first Live Competition of the 2011 Season, which will use Halo Reach

A Halo Reach Exhibition Event will be held
* The Top 4 teams will split a prize pool of $7,500
* The Top 8 finishers from this Event will be seeded 9-16 for the Championship Bracket at the first Live Competition of the 2011 Season, which will use Halo Reach
* Points earned in this Event will be used to seed the first Event of the 2011 Season
* Up to 256 teams may register for this Event
* This Event is 4v4 only
* This Event is open to all players not competing in the Halo 3, SSBB, Tekken 6, or WoW National Championship Events. Combine Finalists are welcome to compete in this Event
* Passes for this Event will go on sale in the MLG Store for $240

This should provide some exciting new competition as Halo: Reach will be new for everyone involved. This could be the opportunity for your team to step up into the semi-pro or pro status!

The Halo Reach Armory Unveiled (updated)

UPDATE
Here is a video of the ENTIRE Reach armory, everything unlocked.

Old Article:

Once again, Bungie is keeping a step ahead of the game in regards to spoilers. They know next Thursday when Reach is demoed at Comic-con, details about the game will be spewing onto the internet in insane proportions. Before that can happen, they have decided to give us an inside look at the Halo Reach Armory.

The Armory in Halo Reach is where you go to customize your Spartan. And when I say customize, I’m not talking about a different helmet and armor color. You can change your Spartan from the color visor he wears all the way to the voice you have in firefight.

This screen shot given to us by Bungie shows the depth of customization they want you to have over your Spartan. You can see above the list of different options available for you to change. In order to be able to upgrade different parts, you must earn credits. Credits are earned by completing specific daily challenges given out by Bungie each day, and also in normal game play for things such as winning and the role you played on your team. It should also be noted that they have made a change from the Halo Reach Beta. In the Beta, the different cameras and such were more expensive than the base helmet itself. They have changed this to where the base armor pieces will cost the most, and additional attachments will cost less to add onto your helmet. They also note certain Helmet augmentations change the helmet significantly, and they are priced accordingly.

Interestingly enough, Bungie released a second screen shot which shows every single armor permutation that you will be able to see the first time you log into the game. As you advance, earn more credits, and upgrade more armor pieces, more options become available for you to purchase. Basically additional items become available based on the purchases you make.

Two things stick out from the screen shot. One, being the skulls with decorations surrounding them, and second, being the different characters towards the end, including Master Chief and Cortana. The skulls with designs around them correlate with the earlier screen shot’s Armor Effect. Armor Effects are things such as the flaming helmet from Halo 3.

Death effects are completely different. Think of them like the Grunt Birthday Party skull, where you got a head shot on a Grunt, and it exploded with confetti. You will still select them from the armor effects screen, but it isn’t clear yet if you get one armor effect and one death effect, or if you have to pick and choose.

As for the characters, they correlate with your Firefight Voice option. This is why you see Master Chief, Sergent Johnson, and other characters who have no place in the story of Reach. Don’t be too disappointed when they don’t make an appearance in the story. Sorry, but you won’t be getting to run around Reach matchmaking as Master Chief anytime soon either.

In any case, this depth of character customizations should have players logging hundreds of hours trying to unlock the most expensive armor permutations. It should also add a level of personalization to your character rarely seen in first person shooters, making your Spartan feel as if he is actually yours.

New Medals Announced

With a new game, comes new medals to earn. 120 medals to be exact. 14 of the 120 can only been seen on your Bunige.net medal chest. So you are probably asking yourself, “What are these new medals and how can I earn them?” Well Bungie has given us information on three new medals that weren’t seen in the Halo Reach Beta.

The first one is called Rejection. To earn it, you must use Armor Lock and survive damage that would normally kill a Spartan if they were at full shield, such as a sticky grenade or a rocket blast to the face.

Protector is the second of the medals released. Bungie tracks damage done to players by other players, even if those players don’t generate kills. In Protector’s case, after a certain amount of damage has been done to a Player A by Player B, if Player C kills player B, he earns the Protector Medal. Player A receives a message (in the same place as messages like You sniped JimmyAwful) that says PlayerC saved your life.

The third medal is the Showstopper. This one is easy, kill an opponent that is performing an Assassination on one of your teammates before the animation is finished and your team mate is dead.

Halo Reach Firefight Evolved Trailer

Bungie recently held an event where they showcased the improved Friefight mode that will be shipping with Halo Reach. Here we have the trailer showcasing the exciting game type!

E3 Halo Reach Campaign Trailer

Straight from E3 2010, we have a good look into the Halo Reach campaign with this new trailer!

Halo Reach Achievements (updated)

The people over at Bungie know it is only a matter of time before the full list of achievements are leaked, so they have decided to start dishing out a few at a time. They have also been kind enough to give us a picture showing each of the achievements.

Here are a few they have announced so far:

  • A Monument to All Your Sins – Complete each Campaign Mission on Legendary – alone.
  • Banshees, Fast and Low – Hijack a Banshee during the Reach Campaign.
  • Yes, Sensei – Earn a First Strike Medal in a Matchmaking game.
  • A New Challenger – Complete all of the Daily Challenges in a given day.
  • Make It Rain – Purchase an item from the Armory that requires the rank of Lt. Colonel.

There will be 49 total Achievements in Reach. Twenty-three of them are Campaign-specific Achievements. They set out to make sure that each Campaign mission has its own ‘special’ Achievement, like:

If They Came to Hear Me Beg – Perform an Assassination against an Elite to survive a fall that would’ve been fatal.

Achievements were bucketed into five different groups, Campaign (23), Firefight (7), Multiplayer (4), Training (6) and Player Experience (9). Some of the Training Achievements can be earned in both Campaign and Firefight.

Update (7/17/10)

Bungie has released a new weekly update which contains the rest of the multiplayer specific achievements and a couple of other campaign achievements:

Be My Wingman, Anytime – Let a teammate spawn on you 5 times in an Invasion Matchmaking game.
– Invasion is a new game mode that we’re real excited about. Additional, co-op spawning is a new mechanic to Reach that we want to see players utilize. There are some obvious social and teambuilding benefits to this Achievement.

Skunked – Win a game of Invasion in the first phase.
- It’s like Steaktacular lite, but in Invasion.

What’s a Killing Spree? – Earn a Killing Spree in multiplayer Matchmaking.
- A return of a classic Halo 3 Achievement, with a new name mirroring the way we internally talk about Killing Sprees or any number of cool flavor medals. We think most players get a Killing Spree at some point or another in their Halo Careers.

Here are two more Achievements from the campaign:

I Need a Weapon – Complete the 4th mission on Normal or Harder.
Your Heresy Will Stay Your Feet – Kill the Elite Zealot before he can escape during the 5th mission.
